We are delighted to announce that Schoolovision 2012 has been selected as a finalist in the annual Medea Awards which will take place in Brussels, Belgium on 14th November. The project is one of nine finalists, chosen from a total of 213 entries from 32 different countries. We have our fingers crossed for a good result on 14th November!

Schoolovision 2012 spans 38 countries across Europe, from Iceland in the north-west, to Azerbaijan in the south-east. Many hundreds of children are involved in this multi-award-winning eTwinning project. See who is representing your country below...

Azerbaijan
We are delighted to welcome for the first time, a school from Azerbaijan to Schoolovision in 2012. School #1, Israil Hasanov, from the city of Ismailly, is a big school, of nearly 1300 pupils. A big welcome to you- and we wish you all Good Luck!
Basque Country
Colegio Urdaneta from the small town of Loiu close to Bilbao, the largest city in the Basque Country area of northern Spain are back again to represent the Basque Country.

Belgium
Qworzó is an elementary school in a small village called Merksplas which lays about 70 km north of Brussels. Back for the 3rd year.

Bosnia and Herzegovina
For the first time in Schoolovision's history, we welcome a partner from Bosnia and Herzegovina. Primary school 'Ćamil Sijarić' is situated in central Bosnia, in Nemila and is one of the biggest schools in the country. Good luck!

A warm welcome to Batumis N2 Sajarko Skola, our first ever representatives from Georgia! The school is situated in the city of Batumi, in the west of Georgia, on the Black Sea coast. Good luck in the competition!

Luxembourg
A big welcome, for the 1st time to the primary school of Koetschette, in the little country of Luxembourg (the 2nd smallest country of the EU). The children in the school choir are aged 6 to 12 and sing in 3 languages: Luxembourgish, German and French. They are looking forward to the new experience of participating in an international song contest, and we wish them all Good Luck!

Ukraine
For the 1st time, we bid a very warm welcome to a school from Ukraine! Chernivtsi Specialized School # 22 is located in the city of Chernivtsi in the picturesque land of Bukovina, Western Ukraine. We are a public school which specializes in English. Our school was founded in 1985. More than 1000 students receive primary and secondary education here. We are extremely excited to be part of Schoolovision 2012!

Awards
Schoolovision has won 1st prize in several International Awards. In its first year, it was triumphant in the Global Junior Challenge, the eLearning Awards and the eTwinning Awards in 2010. In 2012 it was successful at the Medea Awards.

Project history

SV11Schoolovision is now into its 4th year, having been created early in 2009, as an idea to link primary schools from across Europe using the eTwinning platform in a project based on the Eurovision Song Contest.
Each participating country has the chance to choose a song, sing it and video it, before uploading it to the blog by the cut-off date, usually around 1 week before the real ESC. Then, all the pupils in all the participating countries watch and evaluate all the songs, before voting for their own personal favourite, usually the day before the real ESC. For this extra special live vote, we use the webcam conferencing tool, FlashMeeting.
Schoolovision 2009! was the first year of the competition, with a total of 30 countries taking part. The winners were ZS Husova school from Brno in the Czech Republic, with their beautiful song Hejkal.
In 2010, we had a larger entry, with 34 countries eager to win Schoolovision 2010! The standards were extremely high, and the winning song in a nailbiting live-vote came from Flataskoli Gardabaer in Iceland. Their entry was this fantastic version of Abba's Dancing Queen.

The Medea Awards are certainly another grand milestone in the recongnition of the Schoolovision project.
It will be very exciting to go to Brussels next weeek to represent our initiative there.
I'm 100% sure, that luck is on our side:)
